This works well for videos and photos. But what about your music or all your other Apps or Games. Well if you have an iPhone 4S, you are in luck. You can use the mirroring feature to view your screen as it is on the iPhone directly on your TV.
This will eliminate the home button as we know it. Now, of course, this is just rumour. This is based on Apple’s acquisition of Authentec last month. It might be too soon to incorporate that into the iPhone 5 that could very well be announced next week. It is certainly reasonable to expect that before …View full post
Last week my cousin Georgy told me, “I love my iPhone and all its features, but I miss a feature that I had on my older simpler phones. On them I was able to use shortcuts when I was texting and they would get expanded automatically to the right phrases.” I’ll take this opportunity to …View full post
Starting with version 5 of iOS, you can easily update the operating system software on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad wirelessly and over the air. In effect, the umbilical cord has been cut from the PC or Mac. But older phones such as the iPhone 3G or the original Phone cannot install iOS version …View full post
In almost all applications where you have to scroll down to find, read, or interact with information towards the bottom of the page, you usually get there by flicking up the view. The exception is in applications like “Contacts” where you can touch an index to scroll quickly to the beginning of any letter section. …View full post
There are times when you want to take a snapshot of what you see on the screen. One example of where I do it is when an app gives me a confirmation number for a deposit, for example. If the message is in a dialog box, you cannot copy and paste the confirmation number. A screenshot …View full post
For years now we have lived with Google maps. While is is a great app in itself with excellent search capabilities, the new maps from Apple is way better on several fronts. The first thing you will notice is the beautiful skeuomorphic design of the navigation instructions. Since skeuomorphic design has become a mainstay of Apple’s …View full post
The magic of Siri is that you don’t have to know what to say. You don’t have to say specific commands. You can say what is natural and Siri will understand – to a large extent. Here are some things I said to Siri and she understood. Set an alarm for 8:30 AM. Set a …View full post
I should probably not assume that you know how to add an attachment to a new email. But you probably know already. In case you did not, here is how to do it. Usually the attachment that you can send from the iPhone is a photo. There are also other apps that allow you to …View full post
If you have been using the 4S for a while, and especially if you have been using Siri, you know how to invoke it. When the phone is on standby, just press the home button and hold it. Another way is to invoke it from the “microphone key” on the keyboard just to the left of the space button.
But neither of those is the fastest way to talk to her. Lets say you want to do a quick web search for the nearest post office. If you phone is on, (but not in stand by), no matter what application you are in, (even when you are not running any application – like you are on the launch pad or home screen), just lift the phone to your ear and you will hear the familiar ‘ting-ting’ and you can start speaking. This will work even when the phone is locked. The only requirement is that the screen is on.
If your Siri is not set up correctly here is how to do it.

But older phones such as the iPhone 3G or the original Phone cannot install iOS version 5. For example my 3G phone is up to date at the latest possible version for it – iOS 4.3.1. But on my 4S, the current and updated version is iOS 5.1. So how can I tell if the software is up to date and if I have the latest fixes and patches?
You may have come across situations, especially when you are recording long videos when the phone suddenly runs out of storage space. You now have to wait to unload the photos and videos to make room. When you do that, how do you determine how much space you have freed up?
We all know that a 4G model costs $129 extra for the same configuration as a corresponding wifi model. But that is just the beginning. The real cost is the cost of actually using the service. That will add up. And when you start using the hotspot facility the costs will add up. Not to mention the cost of overage. That can come back to haunt you every month!
So what are the real costs? Well it depends on several factors. One of which is whether you use AT&T or Verizon.

The new iPad looks very similar to iPad 2. But the dimensions are different. Read below to see the differences. In addition there are a whole series of antennae for the various networks. Scroll down to see the locations of the antennae.
If you tried already and did not succeed, don’t give up. No, it is not easy to order it. Some times it can appear that it is easy. But you will definitely run into problems – simply because too many people are trying and the server cannot keep up with the demand. But persistence pays off.
Without further ado, here is what you can do to get from
Here are some reasons I can think of:
- You never signed up for the me.com account when it was not free. Now that iCloud is free, and you got a me.com account, you want that to be your primary login ID or email for iTunes.
- You want to use one account for purchasing apps and music that you can share with your family, but you want to keep a separate account for other apps like Calendar, Photos, etc.
Well you are in luck. With the introduction of iCloud last year, Apple made a few changes to the account maintenance web site. Here is how you can easily change your iTunes ID.
Last week my cousin Georgy told me, “I love my iPhone and all its features, but I miss a feature that I had on my older simpler phones. On them I was able to use shortcuts when I was texting and they would get expanded automatically to the right phrases.”
I’ll take this opportunity to show how you can set up shortcuts on the iPhone, like I showed Georgy. By default the only shortcut is ‘omw’ for ‘on my way’. But you can create shortcuts for just about any phrase you want. The next time you type the short code for the phrase, auto-complete will suggest it to you. And you are on your way.
This is how you set it up.
